Understanding Tech Neck and Postural Strain
Tech neck — the cervical pain, headache, upper back tightness, and shoulder tension produced by sustained forward head posture — is one of the fastest-growing musculoskeletal conditions in modern society. It is not merely a discomfort problem. Sustained forward head posture produces progressive structural changes: anterior cervical disc compression, posterior ligament stretch, deep cervical flexor inhibition, and compensatory thoracic kyphosis that redistributes mechanical burden throughout the entire spine.
Left unaddressed, these structural changes become self-perpetuating — the weakened deep cervical flexors cannot support neutral head position, reinforcing the forward posture that is simultaneously worsening their inhibition. Breaking this cycle requires targeted structural correction and neuromuscular retraining.
